We have received several reorders from customers who have lost their original stamps. Many customers don’t realize that we have a 10-year replacement program. It’s in the fine print at the back of our website. But let me post it here so you know that if you ever lose or damage your stamps, you can re-order them at a discount:

• In the event of damage to the original stamp, regardless of the reason, receive a new, identical stamp for 50% off the list price.
• In the event of loss or theft of the original stamp, receive a new, identical stamp for 25% off the list price.”

If a stamp is damaged, you will have to send it back or e-mail us a photograph.

In addition to the 25% discount on orders of replacement stamps, you can enjoy the same discount if you just want additional identical stamps. For example, some people want to have one stamp at home, one at work, and one at the school. Some schools have branches and the school owner authorizes each branch to use the same organizational seal.

When you reorder, simply fill out the product order form without selecting any extras such as translation (it was a one-time charge and you don’t have to pay it again). When we receive the order, we will take 25% off before we charge your card. You will see the full price when you place the order but the adjusted price will appear on your receipt. Also, there is a comment box during checkout to indicate to us that you are asking for the discount.

We have created an official ink seal for Judo Nova Scotia—the governing body for Judo in Nova Scotia. The stamp will be used on provincial diplomas and other documents regarding the sport.

Nova Scotia’s Japanese name is a combination of Katakana (Nova Scotia, ノバスコシア) and Kanji (Province, 州). The word “Judo” should be written in kanji because it originated in Japan, 柔道. Therefore, the stamp combines katakana and kanji, arranged in the traditional way, from top to bottom, from right to left.

The English would read “Judo Nova Scotia” but in the Japanese translation the proper order is “Nova Scotia Judo.” And that is how the stamp was made.

Question: Why does the Good Characters Dojo stamp have a thick border and other stamps don’t? Does it matter?

Answer: Good Characters fashions its stamps after the authentic stamps of China, Korea, and Japan. The Dojo stamp is inspired by the Great Seals—the national seals—of the Republic of China and the Republic of Korea, which have thick borders. The Great Seal of Japan has a thin border. Only Good Characters’ Dojo stamp has a thick border; all other stamps have thin borders.

We also offer martial arts stamps in traditional wooden handle red rubber style. Just mention it in your order form.
